ℹ️ About the episode:
To be completely transparent, we didn’t really want to create this video, but for the sake of transparency… it was important to share the dips. No matter how much or little experience you have, mistakes are going to happen. In many ways, the more experience you have, the more liberties you might take. In many ways, that’s what happened in this episode. A series of little mistakes on a day that got off on the wrong foot ended up creating an expensive repair. Yet, when things go bad on KYD, the silver lining is an opportunity to share lessons learned or at very least a reminder to the community as a whole.

  • Bottom line, there is never a reason to back that rig up without a spotter. If the spotter is not available then wait till the spotter is. There are many ways to get a spotter, but never ever do it alone.

  • I am all for decluttering but Marc aren’t you happy you kept the bolt cutters from the storage locker clean out?

  • I feel for you in this video Marc, I damaged our new short bed Ram truck after only 9 months of ownership when we got in late, around 11:30pm, to a fair we were going to camp at. I was to tired and lazy to slide our fifth wheel hitch back so I said "Oh, I just won't turn that tightly" WRONG! Crushed the passengers side rear corner of the cab. An $1100 mistake!!

  • Great video, Do you add the backup camera? I’m curious to see the install and if you did install – how is it working?

  • Why not just stop filming for you tube and pay attention to what your doing. Cameras don't solve all your backing needs l would never back up in such a tight spot without a ground guild person. The good thing now I can show my wife why she needs to get out and watch me back up. Thanks you might have saved my some money.

  • Your son is so funny talking about the trailer hitch lock. I think small damage is part of the Rv experience. We pray it doesn’t happen but it happens to the best of us. Thank god for insurance. Another solid video. Thanks for sharing.

  • Been following you for years now, back to when you had all the chicks in the roost. I'm sorry you damaged your Airstream, but I'm glad you published the moment. Sometimes we all get unrealistic perceptions of people or situations. We would love to be able to live and travel like you two, but its not in the cards for most of us. That being said, even the beautiful people are people and experience hardship and trials in life. Never envy another mans life or what he owns. The Good Lord gives to each of us what we can handle. Keep up the work, you've certainly earned the rewards.

  • Should use one of those Wile E Coyote splat decals on the airstream dent. I'm pretty sure you live in his stomping ground anyway, so it's believable.

  • Finally a bad day on KYD. I'm not celebrating your mistakes, but you almost always edit out the not so good times. Also, wasn't it you who taught me: "Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast." It was a lesson I picked up from my mistakes (e.g. the time lost by NOT doing the interior walk-through and situational check when backing). That's why pilots have a checklist. No matter who is doing the checklist, it prompts the checklist follower to not skip steps.

  • Hey KYD… Dont feel bad it happens to all of us.. if you are doing the installation.. contact Nichols mfg. in phoenix… they have addons for the camera including extra extensions and so on. great company, and can do the install too im pretty sure.

  • Could you please let me know why you do not have the Hensley arrow set up with the airstream ?
I am thinking about purchasing this set up for our camper any information would help .

  • Good thing the camera was rolling or I bet Marc's reaction would have been completely different. I know mine would have been! Just one of those days.

  • There's a saying "Dress me slowly because I am in a hurry". I also made up my own quote for my line of work "Speed is all about the seconds, the ones you save and the ones you invest" -JO

  • I was so stressed out watching you back in….. and then… you hit it…. so sorry….

  • I know you used the Hensley on past TT but notice you are not on the Airstream. With passage of time and different hitches would you still recommend the Hensley?

  • "Good desicions come from experience. Experience comes from making bad decisions."
We've all made mistakes. Thanks for sharing the good with the not so good. Still worth it!
