  • You should always check both turn signals because for some reason they could be crossed and you turn your right blinker on the truck the left will turn on the trailer and vice versa

  • Excellent video very informative thank you very much

  • I'm very seriously considering buying a fifth wheel and truck to pull it but damn this stuff scares me a little. The hooking up properly, pulling it, parking it etc. Anyone else go through this initial newbie nervousness?

  • now i know how to do it the last car i tried broke down

  • I don't think the seat belt thing refers to private land, only to the United States-owned roadways.

  • Is there a reason why that plate and associated metal parts not coated with a little bit of grease? I’m asking because I just ordered a new Jayco fifth wheel and in approximately 3 months I will be doing this! Thanks!

  • JR, during the hitching at what point do I lift the four jacks in the back, I know at the end I retract all but to get wheels on ground when do I do that?

  • Hey Jr, what fifth wheel hitch do you like the best? We are total newbies to fifth wheel and have no idea which one to buy. Thank you in advance for the advice.

  • Why retract the front landings prior to the tug test? By lifting the front an inch, there's thousands of pounds on the hitch now. Should the trailer not be connected, those thousands of pounds will come crashing down that 1-inch. Not good at all. Keep it simple. Back…..CLICK…..Trailer brake…..Tug. Not drag the coach, TUG. Trust me…..When a coach comes crashing down on the front legs, it's not good for the trailer.

  • Again thank you. I was able to move my 5th wheeler for the first time by myself thanks to you guys God bless

  • Great info and reminders for us "newbies," JR. Thanks to you (and Mark!) for these videos; they help a lot, due to the overload when doing the 1st/2nd RV! Y'all Be Safe!

  • Do you need a class A license to drive it?

  • Great video, i appreciate how thorough you were, even with the raising and lowering of the tail gate.

  • Fabulous job. I keep trying to get my backing up a little easier. Many times people want to help and that just makes it more complicated to me. I will be saving your video.

  • I removed the center rear headrest, and line the post holes up with the pin box for alignment. Then I just look through the rearview mirror and back the truck up. I don't use the mirror on the front of the fifth wheel.

  • Why not lower the nose of the trailer before hooking up. Back close, but not under, hook up your light and brake pigtail. Then apply the trailer brakes will backing under, and lifting up the trailer. Perform your tug-test. Save an in-and-out of the cab and help prevent the trailer from walking away from you when hitting the pin.

  • I'm a trucker and it's weird how fifth wheel rv's are hooked up. Js🤷‍♂️ when we hook up we backup the ideally you want the king pin upper plate to contact the fifth wheel 2.5- 3inc above the risers (ramps) so it will lift the wagon off the ground (dolly's) then when locked In tug it all is good done deal.

  • Can whatever the hitch pin is connected to (arm?) be raised or lowered if your truck is lifted or lowered?

  • Hey! It's Dax Shepard. Even sound like him lol

  • Bought my 1st 5th wheel this week. Used both of your videos (hooking up and disconnecting) and they were EXTREMELY helpful! Thank you for all of the details!

  • This is funny because I'm from Pittsburgh living in Florida and I know a yinzer when I hear one. Feels like home

  • Appreciate that you did the tug test, but for a bit extra redundancy, never hurts to grab a flashlight and visually look for the jaws around the kingpin.

  • Man I've been struggling getting hooked up to my FW. I've been "high hitching", trying to be leveled with the pin or a little above instead of being below. Rookie mistake. Thanks for the vid!
