  • Dublin certainly wasn't the only Viking base. There was also Limerick, Wexford and Waterford.
Viking Dublin specialised in selling Irish captives with 10s of 1000s Irish woman and girls sent to Iceland as slaves by the Vikings. Many Irish captives were sold as slaves to Britain, Europe and even the far east.

In Britain both York and Bristol were major Viking settlements heavily involved in raiding and slave trading, many such slaves were sold to other Vikings or sold abroad.

One of the main bases for raids were the Norse who settled a significant part of Scotland. Other parts of Britain fell under Viking rule under the Danish Vikings. Even the Isle of Man became a viking settlement.

  • Thanks for mentioning the slave trade. That's so often left out of depictions of Vikings, I only learned slaves were one of the main things they went raiding for a couple years ago.

  • Hope you made it out of Dublin and saw some of the rest of Ireland

  • As a matter of fact. The city has its roots in the 4th Century as the settlement of Áth Cliath which is the Irish for “hurdled fort” in the modern High Street area of Dublin

  • So you're saying, that me, with predominantly Irish ancestry, could potentially have viking ancestors? Because that would be absolutely sick if that was the case

  • You always look so happy to be talking about whatever the videos subject is. Your enthusiasm is contagious, please keep it up!

  • Given that these damned Irish are all still shameless thieves I’d say nothing has really changed.

    I jest

  • YAY I have viking blood in me so I clicked on this video your videos are always good

  • ❤ I love travelling and finding all the off the beat routes, stories and legends, away from the crowds

  • Fun fact the irish were the first in europe to beat the vikings in a full on war

  • Is Irish goverment in Dublin? If so, the whole purpose of the city hasn't change 😉

  • As a descendant of Magnus Barefoot, I approve of this short.

  • Could someone please tell me his name, he always says it way too fast and I never catch it and it's driving me a little crazy.

  • I'm from the UK and I've never been to the Republic of Ireland, although I have been to Belfast in Northern Ireland

  • Dont forget the lidl. Theres also wexford and waterford the south, likey where a young Welsh lad called patrick was sold.
Oh dont forget the bogs, joint time capsule and fuel source

  • I was there last July… definitely need to go back and explore the area more

  • it WAS "Dubh Lynn"! named after a "black/dark pool" along the river liffey!

  • "Dublin is a very old city"…

    York: that's cute….
(for the record you can go to a pub there and enjoy the view of the Roman baths in the cellar, which also became a Viking city 800-900 ish years later)

  • I want to go to Dublin, wear full Norse armor, and exclusively speak Old Norse just to see how the people respond.

  • Why didn't the Italian Romans not conquer Scotii or what is now known as Ireland 🇮🇪? Who were the first slaves in the British empire including American colonies, before Black slaves?

  • Viking Dublin has also been given the less-than-flattering title of 'The Slave Capital of Western Europe'.

  • You should cover the Beheading War (aka Federalist Revolt) in Southern Brazil. I am currently reading a book about it and it is very interesting, it would be very cool to see you talk about it.

  • Given it's where the Dail is, it's still based on stealing other people's stuff as long as FF and FG are around.

  • So, basically, as a Dane, I own Seamus and @FreedomToons..

Seamus.. Give me my potatoes back, you thief.!

  • And what's crazy, then the English pigs turned around and said, "now we're gonna do a bunch of attempted genocides on you and colonize your shit until the future of 2023 bare minimum!" It was a weird but accurate prediction
