โ„น๏ธ About the episode:
As you know, we kicked off this season with the ABC’s of motorized RVing. It wasn’t easy. We saw some stuff. We also learned a lot and wanted to provide a recap of our experience to set proper expectations if or when you rent an RV. Yes, we know our rental “series” (so to speak) wasn’t super compelling and this video isn’t overly uplifting, but there are good reasons to rent RVs and going into it with all the information can make the experience great.

  • Thanks for the tips. We have an travel trailer right now, my parents have a class A i think. They have to pay over 400 a year just in registration.. they do it cheaper by only registering during the couple months they use it, but not like my trailer that is lifetime… But i do have to have a truck payment to. But then i don't need a TOAD.. so i dunno.. Depends what you want.. although when we were kids my parents rented rvs to tour Alaska and California for two different vacations. I was to young to care about the money, but they said they rented them for cheaper than renting a car and getting hotels and we all had a great time.. except for the time i fell asleep while they were driving on the bed in the back of the rv.. Behind the rear axles, then my parents took a wrong turn and went on a diet road for a while in Alaska.. i ended up getting car sick in my sleep and waking up and puking everywhere.. lol so don't do that..

  • I may have missed it during the "cost of having an RV" portion, but lets not forget the cost of storing an RV…$50-$100 a month for basic outdoor storage…and 99% of storage lots take 0% of liability for security of your rig! You are paying for the dirt it sits on, and that's it!

  • โ€œOther than all of that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play??โ€!! Great video. Thanks!

  • I think it would have been really cool if you had went to the KYD community and โ€œtradedโ€ RVs for a few days or a week. Kind of like wife swap but RVs lol

  • Well, having had truck slide in campers, then a 27' travel trailer, then a larger truck camper with a slide, and now a diesel pusher…I'm sure you've all figured out over these rigs…I've gotten older too, so the Class A is my favourite, but most expensive to maintain…but we love it once it's set up and the adventure begins! It all comes down in the end…to the memories, the cost will be the part of the memory that fades. What is truly interesting, is reading through some/many of the comments here, and I think a lot of us would get along very nicely, and honestly for me that's one of the joys of RVing I like the most, is the social aspect of meeting others, learning from one another, and having some good belly laughs! Everyone stay safe and take care!!

  • I am so Lucy to rent off the same guy off Facebook market place and it's his personal rv

  • The modern airplane bioinformatically reign because outrigger invariably consist via a sore edger. dirty, milky holiday

  • We were about 1 or 2 weeks behind you on staying at Grand Canyon and Catalina State Park. We are so grateful to have our own rig! We have a Lance cabover camper, perfect for us…there's no place like home!!โค

  • We rented before buying. Best decision we ever did. Hated the first after living in it for a few days. Second one we loved. Bought the exact same layout.

  • This has been one of the most entertaining and fun series you guys have filmed. I laughed, felt your pain, and can feel the relief that you are now back in your own rig. Thanks for the great entertaining and information!

  • You guys are great, My Daughter has been a fan for awhile… I learned how to install my Hensley hitch from a video you posted. we have a Rockwood Roo 23ikss and love it been down to south Carolina to visit my daughter. We also are fans of you, me and Rv. was wondering if you still using the airstream or are you driving the bus thing. My wife and i are learning a lot from your website and others…2.5 more years and i will hopefully retire and than be able to take some of the wonderful trips to places we have seen highlighted on your site…Thanks for the great insight, who knows maybe we will see the "lady from that camping website" someday

  • We have a class a gas with solar, let us know when you want to try it. Washer/dryer combo. Have never rented it out, but would make an exception if you really wanted to try it out.

  • The comment on sharing was good. About 6 years ago, I got a deal on Living Social for camping at a place where we had camped previously in a trailer – only this was one of their cabins (Park Model RV). We had been thinking about buying property and had looked, but nothing felt right. We spent the weekend there, and on the way home, we looked at each other and said, "This is what we want." We waited a bit until the time was right, and then purchased 1/4 interest in one of the privately owned cabins there. Right now, we spend our vacation time there (we have one person who takes the requests and then schedules out the weeks of the year, so we can get two back-to-back) and as many of the weekends of our weeks as possible. It's our own slice of heaven, and the purchase cost as well as the ongoing maintenance costs are 1/4 of what they would be otherwise. It's definitely been a big win for us.

  • Rented a Cruise America class C for week. It drove like a moving truck and slept the same. So don't do that either.

  • I'll rent my Truck and 5th wheel…both like new…150k deposit and no refunds!!!!

  • After watching maybe a dozen of your (mostly more recent) videos, and looking over many RV rental listings to get an idea what things people would charge for (yes, generator time and daily mileage, who knew?!), then deciding that we would upgrade from a Journey to a Durango (and thus could actually tow something), hubby and I took our two preschoolers off on an eleven-day, 3400mi round trip in a rented A frame trailer. It was crazy, and many tantrums were thrown by all, but it was also a really good trip and a good intro to the RV gig. Enough of a trailer to be a solid shelter, without being so huge or complicated as to intimidate us newbies. We aren't sure we would chose to own that model, but now we have a frame of reference for going forward. Sometimes, yes, you do just have to take that crazy leap and roll with it. Thanks for the videos. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • We own a travel trailer but unfortunately we have to store it away from our home. So every time we take it out for a weekend I have to pack up everything we might need, and make several trips to fill it up as our neighbors look in amusement.๐Ÿ˜‚ I make a list by thinking about each part of our camper…bathroom (towels, toiletries, etc), bedroom (sheets, blankets, etc), kitchen (food, pots, pans etc). We keep some essentials in it like dishes, paper products, and soap but it would be cost prohibitive for us to keep it fully stocked with everything we need. It's a lot of work, but worth it when we finally reach our destination. (One time I forget to bring a single towel!!! Now I keep it stocked with towels.)

  • Wow they really want coffee.

  • Marc and Trish, you need to write your own "Travel Guide" with all your Valuable Information
We visit 6 States in 20 days since they were very close to each other, it was easy to do
Started in North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan
North Carolina was on my Dream List The States, we visit the most, yearly Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan
Next year is my dream list to visit Northeast "Seven" States We even visit Grand Design Corporation in Middlebury, Indiana

  • Yeah, renting an RV is ridiculously expensive. I researched it awhile back. I decided it definitely wasn't worth it. Hotel rooms were definitely cheaper. The partnership idea is good, but I recommend put it in writing.

  • i watch a lot of your content, and enjoy it. I find myself watching a video from the title but you do not always get to what the title suggested. I thought you were going to break down the costs of the various rentals, but didn't see that. Is there a separate video that i missed where you discussed that. There content is very good so this is not a complaint.

  • Can you please tell me the year and make and model of the Subaru you were flat towing? Thanks

  • We've rented once, when we were considering switching from TT to a class c. Renting was key to making the decision to buy a 5th wheel instead. Great way to try before you buy.

  • The upcharges are freaking crazy, I had no idea. This makes me happy I bought a TT.

  • Hey Mark and Trish, would you ever consider a season touring the United Kingdom? ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

  • Definitely know how you feel when plans change just had the sameish experience when my truck died with the fifth wheel heading out for a long weekend my oldest son was in tears when we had to turn around was able to find a new truck and a puck adapter and was able to go a day late but the feeling of aw all our plans time off work going money you spend on something you enjoy than itโ€™s back at your house cause the truck broke mad me sad

  • Alright I love you guys but to complete the mission I think you gotta do a schoolie.. yep thatโ€™s a challenge

  • Nova Scotia is opening itโ€™s borders to Atlantic Canadians on June 23/21.
If things go well, no up=take on Covid Cases, then Atlantic Canada will open up to rest of Canada on July 14th/21.
Then it will be up to the Canadian and USA Govt. to determine when they open their borders.
    Cheers from Nova Scotia๐Ÿค—

  • You guys are the BEST. I love your candidness and your almost stream of consciousness rapport with us! So glad Charlie doesn't have to ride in any more motorized!

  • We rented a 1 year old Class B+ few years back through Outdoorsy, private owner, and it was wonderful! Lugging our stuff into the van and finding homes right away for our stuff was stressful, but the owners did provide all the main necessities which was awesome! Grill, table, all cooking needs, chairs, rug and so on. We did bring our own bedding and SO GLAD for it too! We did pay extra for extra mileage, and a lost hubcap that happened on an overpass during construction and concrete lane barriers. We looked at each other and laughed wryly saying, welp, so that happened and there is NO WAY we can safely retrieve it. Ugh! ($250 dollar Mercedes replacement!) But HIGHLY recommend using Outdoorsy with a private owner. The expectation Marc was looking for and never had, we totally DID have with our owner! Spent a good 1-2 hours going through EVERY thing, which although time consuming, was what we needed as first time RV'rs! It was great!

  • CLIFFS!!!!! We love Cliffs welding! They are the best place for towing and hitch stuff!

  • We want to fly out to destination A… and then rent a RV and explore. What do we about our bed and bathroom linens plus a coffee maker?!?1

  • I have a question. We have grandkids and we don't feel comfortable with putting car seats in our class A. Also, not sure it is legal. I am thinking our only option is an extended cab truck and trailer. Is my thinking in line with yours? Thanks!! Johnny

  • Seen on a cafe door in Malacca, Malaysia: โ€œAttitude is the difference between an adventure and an ordealโ€. Happy adventures to all!

  • On the note of renting costing $250-$500 a night, I dragged my feet buying one for years until I realized I could finance a 38' travel trailer for $200 a month. We use it way more than 12 times a year so our costs are considerably lower than renting and we have all our own things ๐Ÿ™‚ We did already have a truck so that does make a difference but we're happy we don't have to rent

  • We rented a trailer that the owner provided the trailer with grey and black open and said they wanted it returned open because they had issues of people leaving โ€œstuffโ€ in the tanks.

  • Weโ€™ve rented once!! Ended up buying our own trailer. Sooo much better!
Such a great episode! Love all the honest advice, love your videos and love some Marc and Trish!๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿฅฐ

  • My sister and I rented our first class C RV for a trip to The Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and Mt. Rushmore. We found it quite expensive. Iโ€™m glad we took the trip but will probably try something different for our next trip to Utah. At 62 and 65 years old, a few creature comforts, like hot showers, while I travel are high on my list of โ€œmust havesโ€. The RV was a great way to travel safely during COVID but too expensive going forward.

  • hmmm. Not really sure what to say about this one. I love you guys, but for this particular video it seems like a lot of whining. Let's get back to wine…. Please don't get me wrong, you guys produce some amazing content, and I think you were very honest with this one, maybe too honest. But worry not, I will be waiting with anticipation for next week's vlog. Happy camping.

  • Well Marc, I respectfully have to disagree with you. Whatever you two do is compelling. Your positive energy and optimism just supersede all the negative. But you both are on point when you say the whole thing is the journey – enjoy it all!! Love me some KYD ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Was that a tortilla with butter ๐Ÿงˆ ๐Ÿ˜Š? ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

  • I was driven to rent in the late 90s by the previous 20 years use of my fatherโ€˜s collection of Winnebagos. No matter where I went with dadโ€˜s coach I would spend a week or two underneath working on everything from the suspension to the engine to the storage systems etc. Long story short and someday Iโ€™m going to make a video of this history onto a new relationship I decided to buy the coach of my dreams I did not want to subject My knew family to all of the exciting adventures I had had previously ! Someday will all sit down and swap some incredible stories! Thomyt

  • My wife and love your videos. You are energetic and entertaining with good information.

Our biggest need is to learning how to get off our duffs and plan a trip. Any tricks or hints on how to plan an itinerary and get reservations would be great. This part overwhelms us. Do we always need reservations for every night. We have a great RV, just need to get out and use it. Thanks for your videos.

  • Great advice, we started the same way. Rented a Class C so we could take the dog. We realized he didnโ€™t care for the ride but we didnโ€™t go far and the weekend was great but we were stuck with no bikes or toad. My daughter was close and came to stay with us so crisis avoided. Ran into friends that had a fifth wheel so my wife had a new perspective on the potential. We learned a lot in a short trip. Fast forward to the โ€œlost yearโ€ and my wife began to get cabin fever by June so she suggested we look at RVโ€™s and get out in the open air. Turned out a guy at work knew of a travel trailer that was in great shape with low miles, we jumped on a 2015 TT V Lite. Great unit and having fun but now the wife wants longer trips and a fifth wheel is on her mind. She even stated we need a dually so weigh isnโ€™t a problem. You need to start to learn and advance.

  • Glad the rentals are done too. ๐Ÿ™‚We're ready to enjoy your next adventure!
